About The Role

We are seeking a talented and Unity-focused developer to lead the creation of our XR applications. The core of this role is to design, build, and optimize interactive experiences for mobile devices and dedicated XR hardware. While your main focus will be on Unity, you will also contribute to the support and maintenance of our native companion applications on iOS and Android, which serve as content catalogs and streaming portals for our XR ecosystem.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

• Unity & XR Development:
• Architect, build, and maintain high-performance Unity applications for mobile (iOS/Android) and dedicated XR devices (e.g., Meta Quest, XREAL, Apple Vision Pro).
• Develop and implement engaging Augmented Reality (XR) features using C# and modern frameworks like AR Foundation and spatial SDKs like Immersal.
• Profile and optimize applications to ensure smooth frame rates, efficient memory usage, and responsible battery consumption across all target platforms.
• Support Native Companion Apps:
• Maintain and support our existing native applications on iOS and Android.
• Implement updates to the UI, manage content within the app catalogs, and ensure the stability of the video/data streaming features.
• End-to-End Application Management:
• Manage the full application lifecycle, from technical design and development to testing, deployment, and post-launch support.
• Handle the submission and update process for the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for both Unity and native apps.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to define and integrate with APIs.

What You Bring (Qualifications & Experience)

• Unity & XR Expertise (Primary Skill):
• Deep professional experience developing with Unity and C# is essential.
• Proven track record of building and shipping XR (Augmented or Virtual Reality) applications.
• Strong experience with XR frameworks like AR Foundation (ARKit/ARCore) and an understanding of the development lifecycle for hardware like the Meta Quest platform.
• Native Mobile Development (Secondary Skill):
• Familiarity with native mobile development for iOS (Swift/UIKit) and Android (Kotlin). You don’t need to be an expert, but you should be comfortable navigating an existing codebase to make updates and fix bugs.
• Core Technical Skills:
• Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, and client-side data management.
• Proficiency with mobile development tools (Xcode, Android Studio) and version control (Git).
• Mindset: You are a product-focused developer who is passionate about creating immersive user experiences and takes pride in the quality and performance of your code.

Strong Pluses (Nice to Have)

• Knowledge of video streaming protocols and media player libraries.
• Experience with shaders and advanced rendering techniques in Unity.
• Experience with mobile CI/CD automation tools like Fastlane or similar.
• Understanding of 3D math, rendering pipelines, and performance optimization techniques for real-time applications.

Location

Mawari’s Canadian office is at the Waterloo Accelerator Centre – a modern and vibrant facility adjacent to the University of Waterloo campus. It’s conveniently located on the Ion elect light rail systems running North-South here in Waterloo Region. The Waterloo Accelerator is a modern work environment with plenty of natural light, open space and flexible meeting areas as well as free coffee/tea service.
