About the role:

As part of the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Monitoring & Investigations Team, you will be responsible for conducting Transaction Monitoring for our key clients. The Transaction Monitoring Specialist plays a critical role in detecting, investigating, and reporting potentially suspicious activities across fiat and virtual asset products, ensuring compliance with AML/CFT and sanctions requirements in a fast‑growing digital assets environment. Additionally, you will actively contribute to the ongoing enhancement of our compliance controls, ensuring Matrixport adheres to both internal and industry standards for AML. We are looking for a candidate based in Malaysia.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor and investigate alerts generated from transaction monitoring systems covering both fiat and crypto (on‑chain and off‑chain) flows, including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and trades.
  • Perform end‑to‑end case investigations: gather data, review KYC/customer profiles, analyze counterparties and wallets, document rationale, and recommend case closure or escalation.
  • Conduct blockchain analysis using analytics tools (e.g. Chainalysis, TRM, Elliptic, CipherTrace) to trace fund flows, identify risk patterns, and assess exposure to designated risk categories.
  • Identify unusual patterns, typologies, and emerging risks specific to crypto and propose enhancements to monitoring rules and scenarios.
  • Prepare high‑quality Suspicious Transaction/Activity Reports (STRs/SARs) with clear and concise narratives, supporting evidence, and defensible conclusions for submission to the MLRO and relevant authorities.
  • Support periodic tuning, calibration, and validation of transaction monitoring rules, thresholds, and models to balance effectiveness and alert quality in line with the business risk appetite.
  • Contribute to internal training by sharing typologies, red flags, and lessons learned from cases, and help drive continuous improvement in monitoring quality and efficiency.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory developments, enforcement actions, and financial crime trends relating to virtual assets, stablecoins, DeFi, and cross‑border payments.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in AML transaction monitoring, investigations, or financial crime compliance within banks, fintechs, payment institutions, or crypto platforms.
  • Degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related discipline.
  • Good understanding of AML/CFT and sanctions frameworks applicable to virtual assets and payment services (e.g. MAS, PSA, FATF VASP guidance, US/EU standards is a plus).
  • Familiarity with common crypto financial crime typologies
  • Hands‑on experience with transaction monitoring systems and case management tools; ability to work with large datasets and multiple data sources to form a coherent view of customer activity.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills; able to identify patterns, connect disparate data points, and make risk‑based decisions under time pressure.
  • Strong risk‑based judgment, with the ability to balance regulatory expectations, business needs, and customer experience.
  • Proven track record executing end‑to‑end investigations from alert review through escalation/closure and STR/SAR drafting.
  • High attention to detail and strong documentation discipline to ensure audit‑ready case files and reproducible decisioning.
  • Professional certifications in AML/Compliance (e.g. ACAMS, ICA) and/or crypto compliance are an advantage.
  • Fluency in both English and Chinese, with the ability to handle documents and databases in Chinese and liaise with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.
