Our team embraces hyper-transparency, fostering an environment of open dialogue, candid discussions and constructive feedback, staying adaptable in the ever-evolving tax environment in the crypto industry. We are a collaborative team of tax professionals excited by the opportunity to be challenged by a completely new and emerging field of tax law. We work across numerous functions within Kraken on a regular basis, and work with each other to tackle challenging and technical tax issues quickly in partnership with product, finance, legal, business development, and other functions.

This critical role will work closely with Tax and Finance Leadership, interact regularly with other tax and finance professionals, and work across other functions here at Kraken.

The opportunity

We’re hiring a manager to lead the operational backbone of our global tax function. This role sits within Tax reporting to the Head of Tax and is responsible for ensuring that our tax calculations, data flows, and reporting processes are accurate, scalable, and audit-ready. You’ll leverage advanced SQL/Python skills to operationalize complex U.S. international tax computations (FDII, GILTI, Subpart F), support crypto cost-basis and financial product tracking, and manage end-to-end data mapping for OneSource Tax Provision. This is a hands-on Tax Operations leader who ensures that the tax function runs with precision, reliability, and efficiency. This person will:

  • Own the day-to-day and long-term operational mechanics of the corporate Tax Platform

  • Develop and operationalize repeatable calculations for:

    • FDII, GILTI, Subpart F, and other U.S. international tax computations and transfer pricing computations

    • Digital asset cost basis and inventory tracking, including derivatives and complex financial products

  • Maintain and improve the data pipelines and transformation logic that feed the Tax Provision process

  • Lead OneSource data mapping, data cleansing, and reconciliation workflows

  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, Data, and Product teams to ensure tax data integrity across all systems

  • Build SQL/Python automation that reduces manual effort, improves accuracy, and strengthens internal controls

  • Serve as the go-to operations expert for tax data issues, system flows, and reconciliation anomalies

  • Manage cross-functional execution for quarter-end and year-end tax processes

  • Establish controls, documentation, and repeatable processes to support audit and regulatory readiness

  • Provide mentorship to analysts and foster a culture of operational rigor within the tax team

Skills you should HODL

  • 5+ years in corporate tax operations, tax provision, or international tax analytics

  • Working knowledge of FDII, GILTI, and Subpart F

  • Advanced SQL and Python, especially for reconciliation, data transformation, and computational modeling

  • Experience supporting or operating a corporate tax provision process

  • Familiarity with digital asset cost-basis issues, inventory methods, and financial product tax implications

  • Hands-on experience with OneSource Tax Provision (data mapping, imports, validations)

  • Ability to translate tax rules into operational logic and scalable processes

  • Strong cross-functional communication and comfort working in a fast-moving environment

  • Attention to detail that balances accuracy with timely execution

Nice to haves

  • Experience with crypto exchanges or digital asset financial reporting

  • Understanding of blockchain data structures (at a conceptual level—no engineering required)

  • Prior involvement in process redesign, systems implementation, or tax workflow automation

  • Experience managing small teams or leading operational pods
