At Hiro, we build the infrastructure that powers the Stacks layer and connects developers to Bitcoin. Our platform provides the core building blocks, from the Stacks API and Platform services to Chainhook-2.0 and the public Testnet that make developing on Stacks and Bitcoin fast, reliable, and scalable.
Hiro’s tools serve as the foundation for Stacks and Bitcoin, helping developers build, test, and deploy applications anchored to the most secure blockchain. Whether it’s indexing Bitcoin transactions, streaming real-time data through Chainhook, or operating the Stacks Testnet, Hiro’s infrastructure ensures the network runs smoothly and developers can focus on building.
Building on Bitcoin is hard. Hiro makes it easier.
We’re very proud that Hiro has consistently been recognized on Built In’s Best Places to Work list, including 2025’s Best Remote Startups to Work For, Best Startups to Work For in New York City, 50 Best U.S. Startup Companies to Work For, and 100 Best Remote Places to Work.
Hiro is backed by more than $75 million in funding from Union Square Ventures, Y Combinator, Lux Capital, Winklevoss Capital, Naval Ravikant, and others.
About the Opportunity
Hiro is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform team. If you’re passionate about building and scaling backend systems, APIs, and developer experiences that empower builders in the Bitcoin ecosystem, this role is for you.
Our team thrives on collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to our mission. We care deeply about each other, the company, and the Stacks ecosystem, fostering a supportive and inclusive culture where engineers can do their best work.
As a Platform Engineer at Hiro, you’ll focus on designing, building, and optimizing the APIs and services that power our developer platform, including Chainhook-2.0, a high-performance, reorg-aware transaction indexer for Bitcoin and Stacks. In this remote-first role, you’ll collaborate with a talented, distributed team and have broad ownership to implement services that serve our global developer community.
This role requires high agency and autonomy. You’ll be expected to operate with independence, navigate ambiguity, and make decisions that balance short-term delivery with long-term platform evolution. You’ll also have the opportunity to flex between infrastructure and product engineering, partnering closely with Product Managers to shape the strategic roadmap for the Hiro Platform and help define the developer experience at the intersection of Bitcoin and Stacks.
You’ll tackle challenges in scalability, performance, and reliability to ensure our APIs and indexing systems are robust, efficient, and developer-friendly. You’ll work across a modern, open-source tech stack including TypeScript/Node.js, Rust, PostgreSQL, GCP, Kubernetes, and more, leveraging automation, observability, and CI/CD pipelines to ship high-quality code efficiently.
Join us at a rapidly growing company where you can innovate freely and help bring the next generation of Bitcoin and Web3 applications to life.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that drive Hiro’s developer platform (e.g. blockchain data, token metadata, ordinals, and Chainhook-2.0).
- Work on Chainhook-2.0, a high-performance, reliable, and reorg-aware transaction indexer that delivers real-time Bitcoin and Stacks data to developers and applications.
- Ensure high performance and reliability of APIs and data pipelines, optimizing endpoints, databases, and caching to handle increasing load with low latency and high uptime.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOps to plan and implement new features end-to-end, delivering seamless developer experiences.
- Write and automate thorough tests (unit, integration, performance) using tools like k6 and Playwright, ensuring every release meets our quality standards.
- Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions, contributing to design decisions and championing engineering best practices.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production systems as needed, debugging issues across services and implementing fixes to maintain stability and security.
- Work across the stack when necessary, primarily backend APIs, but occasionally frontend code or internal tools, to deliver complete, high-quality solutions.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of software development experience building and shipping production applications, with a focus on backend systems or API-driven services.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js and/or Rust (our core services are built with these languages).
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and scaling web APIs or microservices, including performance tuning, system design, and reliability.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (especially PostgreSQL), including data modeling, querying, and optimization.
- Familiarity with modern cloud and container infrastructure, such as Docker, Kubernetes, and GCP.
- Passion for code quality and automation , writing clean, maintainable code and building automated testing and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills , comfortable working in a remote, distributed team across time zones.
- Self-driven and ownership-minded, able to take initiative, manage projects end-to-end, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly autonomous and self-driven, with strong ownership and a bias toward action — able to identify priorities, make tradeoffs, and deliver outcomes in evolving, fast-paced environments.
- Thrives in ambiguity, adaptable, resourceful, and able to bring clarity through execution.
- Product-minded engineering approach, capable of collaborating with product teams to define goals, shape the strategic direction of the Platform, and deliver developer experiences that scale.
We’d Also Like to See:
- Blockchain/Web3 experience or interest. Familiarity with decentralized networks, or a keen interest in learning blockchain tech.
- Experience building developer-focused products. For example, working on developer tools, SDKs, or API platforms – understanding what makes a great developer experience.
- Exposure to performance tuning and observability. Knowledge of caching (Redis), profiling and optimizing high-traffic systems, and using monitoring/logging tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki) to ensure reliability.
- Infrastructure and DevOps know-how. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), CI/CD tooling (ArgoCD), and global cloud networking (CDN/DNS/WAF like Cloudflare) is a plus.
- Open-source contributions or community involvement. Experience contributing to open-source projects or engaging with developer communities.
We’d love to hear from you even if you don’t have experience or interest in every bullet.
What We’ll Offer:
- Salary Range (regardless of location, benchmarked annually) $150,000 – $200,000.
- Company equity and Stacks (STX) tokens–STX is the native cryptocurrency of the Stacks network
- $500/mo co-working space reimbursement
- $1,200/yr stipend for learning and development
- $1,000/yr of charity donation matching to an organization of your choosing
- Daily Lunch Reimbursement (even if you’re remote!)
- Open Vacation Policy, take the days you need
- Family-Friendly Health Benefits
- Free Life and Disability Insurance
- Health and dependent care (FSA)
- Up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave
- Pre-tax commuter benefits
