About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join our multicultural engineering team in Toronto. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact as a senior developer while working on a large-scale application refactoring initiative designed to reduce technical debt and improve system architecture.

As a Senior Java Developer, you will serve as one of our key technical referents, mentoring team members and driving best practices to elevate code quality of your team. You will be working in a collaborative environment where your expertise will directly contribute to modernizing our technology stack.

Responsibilities

Technical Expertise:

• Serving as a technical referent for the development team, providing inputs on architecture decisions and best practices
• Test-driven development mindset, ensuring comprehensive unit, integration, and regression testing
• Leading code reviews and establishing coding standards to improve overall code quality
• Mentoring junior and mid-level developers, fostering their professional growth
• Collaborating with your peer engineers and the product team on technical strategy and roadmap planning

Application Development & Refactoring:

• Contributing to the ongoing refactoring and reworking of our core application to reduce maintenance load
• Improving database performance and queries within our Oracle DB environment
• Analysing existing codebase to identify areas for improvement and optimization within our monolithic architecture
• Participating in architectural discussions and provide technical recommendations for our stack

Qualifications

Technical Skills:

• 5+ years of professional Java development experience
• Strong proficiency in Java 11+ and enterprise Java frameworks (Spring)
• Experience with Oracle Database, including SQL optimization and performance tuning
• Proficiency with JSP for server-side development for front-end development
• Experience with application refactoring, legacy code modernization, and technical debt reduction
• Solid understanding of software design patterns, SOLID principles, and clean code practices
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
• Experience with Kubernetes on AWS
