About the Role
The Senior IT Systems Engineer is an IT professional with deep technical expertise and a builder’s mindset, focused on creating scalable infrastructure, internal applications, and automation to support a high-growth, developer-focused organization. You will be a founding member of our growing IT team, engineering solutions across cloud infrastructure, identity, endpoint management, and employee productivity systems. With a strong foundation in scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native design, you’ll also lead the development of AI-powered tools and integrations that elevate operational efficiency and user experience.
The IT Team
IT is embedded within our Security function, and you’ll collaborate closely with Security to ensure all systems are robust, compliant, and secure by design. This is a ground-floor opportunity to influence the technical direction of the IT organization and deliver meaningful impact through hands-on engineering and thoughtful process development.
Responsibilities
Force multiply productivity and security by designing and implementing AI-enhanced workflows, bots, and internal apps.
Design, build, and maintain core IT infrastructure in a public cloud environment (AWS, GCP), with a focus on security, reliability, and scalability.
Design and manage CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code systems using tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, or Ansible.
Lead the development of internal tools and integrations using Python and Bash to automate routine operations, reduce manual work, and optimize IT support.
Integrate AI/ML models and APIs into internal systems and business workflows to improve employee experience and system intelligence.
Drive identity lifecycle automation and secure authentication, expanding the use of Okta and related identity platforms across the org.
Deploy and manage endpoint device management policies (MacOS, Linux), infrastructure, and MDM systems (e.g., Jamf).
Support the ongoing administration and improvement of SaaS platforms such as GSuite, Jira, Slack, and Confluence.
Onboard and operationalize new technologies that solve high-leverage business challenges, including middleware and AI/automation platforms.
Partner with security and engineering teams to ensure DevSecOps best practices, including secrets management and secure protocols (OAuth, SAML).
Lead cross-functional projects from planning to delivery, creating documentation and runbooks to support scalable operations.
Mentor junior team members, helping grow technical and strategic capabilities across the IT team.
Provide responsive and effective IT support while continuously improving helpdesk and endpoint processes.
Travel up to 3x per year for team or project-related events.
Required Experience
10+ years in IT or cloud infrastructure roles, with 4+ years in fast-paced tech/startup environments.
Deep experience managing cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including compute, storage, networking, security, and identity services.
Proven ability to build and maintain AI-powered internal tools or integrations that drive business outcomes.
Strong scripting skills with Python and Bash, including experience creating internal tools, bots, or automation systems.
Hands-on expertise with Terraform, Kubernetes, Ansible, or similar tools for infrastructure-as-code and automation.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement secure authentication, VPN, firewall, and access control strategies.
Expertise in secrets management, identity lifecycle, and compliance with SOC2/ISO 27001.
Linux server administration in cloud-first IT environments.
Strong collaboration skills and experience integrating cross-functional requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Deep familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), regression testing, and Agile methodologies.
Preferred Experience
Expertise in Okta SSO administration and engineering, including custom workflows, API integration, and automation.
Experience deploying and maintaining policies and configuration within MDM platforms such as Jamf or Workspace ONE.
Background in cloud-native engineering, including scaling distributed systems or internal apps enhanced by AI.
Experience with middleware or integration platforms like Workato, Mulesoft, or Dell Boomi.
Familiarity with managing globally distributed teams and tooling.
Okta Certified Developer or Atlassian Administrator certification.
Networking experience and/or audio/video engineering support capabilities.
Degree in Computer Science, Security Engineering, AI/ML, or related field—or equivalent experience building intelligent systems.
