Blackbird is looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer to own Flycar, our restaurant payments terminal used by thousands of restaurants. You’ll build the software servers and managers rely on during every service, where downtime means a dining room that can’t close checks.
This is a Next.js/TypeScript monorepo powering multiple apps across payments, loyalty, and restaurant operations. You’ll work primarily in Flycar but contribute across the platform.
Responsibilities
Own end-to-end development of Flycar – UI, API integration, WebSocket flows, and fallback handling when things go wrong
Build interfaces that work reliably across FSR and QSR environments with inconsistent hardware, spotty networks, and dozens of POS configurations
Drive frontend architecture decisions — you’ll shape how we build, not just what we build
Debug real-time payment flows that span our terminal, mobile app, and backend services
Requirements
5+ years with React and TypeScript
Experience with real-time data (WebSockets, polling) and graceful degradation on unreliable networks
Track record shipping software where failure has immediate, visible consequences — payments, POS, fintech, or similar
Comfort working across the stack: reading API contracts, debugging queries, reasoning about system design
Strong ownership instincts in a small, fast-moving team where scope is fluid
Nice to Haves
Experience with payments infrastructure, POS systems, or restaurant/hospitality tech
Background in multi-tenant systems or hardware-constrained environments (terminals, kiosks)
Exposure to blockchain, crypto, or web3
Experience with Datadog, Amplitude, or similar observability/analytics platforms
Depending on your work location and experience the target annual salary for this position can range from: [$180,000-$240,000] USD. This range does not include the equity component of the overall compensation package. Disclosure in accordance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Law.
