A quick run-down of the job

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to strengthen our engineering team, with a strong focus on API design and long-term system quality. You’ll join the team building and evolving our partner backoffice software and act as a senior individual contributor with meaningful technical influence across the product.
This role sits within a cross-functional team made up of a Product Owner, frontend engineers, and backend engineers, jointly responsible for building and maintaining our partner backoffice software.

Location requirement: You must be located in the EMEA region. Applications outside EMEA will not be considered.

  • Node.js with TypeScript, running in Docker containers

  • MongoDB and Redis

  • ethers.js for blockchain communication

  • GitHub, Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare for our GitOps CD pipeline

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend systems and APIs, with a strong emphasis on clear, consistent, and well-versioned API design

  • Take ownership of API contracts and backend interfaces used by frontend applications and partner-facing systems

  • Contribute to the architecture of scalable and robust backend solutions that support growing usage and evolving product needs

  • Maintain high engineering standards through code reviews, thoughtful abstractions, and clean, readable code

  • Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize system behavior, data access patterns, and caching strategies

  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and debugging tooling to ensure high availability and operational confidence

  • Build and maintain comprehensive test suites, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests

  • Act as a senior technical contributor within the team, supporting other engineers through collaboration, reviews, and design discussions

  • Analyze complex technical problems and propose pragmatic, production-ready solutions

  • Document APIs, systems, and technical decisions to support knowledge sharing and onboarding

What makes a good candidate

  • Must be located in the EMEA region

  • Strong professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js

  • Extensive experience working as a senior backend engineer on production systems

  • Proven ability to design clean, maintainable, and scalable APIs

  • Solid understanding of document databases and caching systems (e.g. MongoDB, Redis)

  • Experience with backend architecture and system design in distributed environments

  • Deep knowledge of testing principles and modern testing frameworks

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams

  • Proactive, self-directed, and comfortable taking ownership of backend domains

  • Ability to write maintainable, scalable, production-grade code

  • Experience or interest in blockchain or EVM-based systems is a plus, but not required

  • Very strong written and spoken English

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science is a plus
