Job Description

The Role

Do you want to take a key role in shaping the future of hydrogen in the UK?

Talan’s hydrogen team sits right at the heart of the energy transition, working with private and public sector clients to help solve some of the hardest challenges facing the industry. In addition, we also provide the secretariat to Hydrogen UK, the largest hydrogen industry trade body operating in the UK, which is shaping the role of hydrogen in the energy transition. Hydrogen UK has been instrumental in the development of the strategies and policy frameworks that will enable hydrogen to scale over the next decade.

We are looking to recruit a new Senior Analyst. The role sits within a small, dynamic, and impactful hydrogen team and reports to the Hydrogen Director. The successful applicant will be instrumental in working with both our consultancy clients and the Hydrogen UK membership, policy makers, and other external stakeholders to shape hydrogen policy by providing objective, evidence-based policy positions that influence how we think about hydrogen in the UK. They will lead on the delivery of techno-economic modelling studies for a wide range of consultancy clients.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Hydrogen UK CEO/Hydrogen Director and Head of Policy to shape and implement Hydrogen UK’s ambitious work plan. Working with the Hydrogen Consultancy Lead to shape and implement Talan’s hydrogen offering.
  • Leading the analytical work of both the consultancy and Hydrogen UK, working with Talan’s wider team of economists and data analysts.
  • Building energy system, techno-economic, and financial models to support consultation responses, reports, and research projects.
  • Building expertise in key hydrogen policy mechanisms and market development,s and facilitating knowledge sharing between HUK and consultancy teams.
  • Representing HUK and Talan at events and conferences, delivering presentations, and speaking on panels
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders across industry and Government.

The role can be based in Birmingham or London. The role typically involves some UK travel with occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
  • Exceptional numerical skills with the ability to build and utilise financial, techno-economic, and energy system models
  • Knowledge of hydrogen solutions and technologies, and the role of hydrogen in the energy transition.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and be confident in liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including civil servants and industry leaders.
  • Comfort and experience delegating tasks to team members & coordinating more junior team members, as well as managing larger consultancy projects with multi-disciplinary teams.
