Company
Founded in 2018 by CPAs, tax attorneys, and software developers, Taxbit is creating an entirely new category to enable widespread compliant adoption of digital assets for the global economy. Taxbit’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform streamlines and automates customers’ tax reporting and accounting activities for digital assets.
Trusted by leading crypto, tech, and traditional enterprises, Big 4 accounting firms, and government agencies (including the IRS), Taxbit solves compliance challenges at scale amidst an ever-evolving regulatory landscape. Taxbit is backed by leading Silicon Valley VCs with teams located in New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Europe.
Opportunity for Impact
Taxbit is seeking a Principal Product Designer to make enterprise tax compliance for digital assets feel simple — even when it isn’t.
Our platform powers tax and compliance workflows for the world’s largest crypto exchanges, payments companies, and Big 4 accounting firms. The workflows are dense, data-heavy and multi-jurisdictional. And the regulatory landscape is evolving fast, with major new global mandates like CARF, DAC8, and CRS 2.0 creating an unprecedented wave of product complexity and business opportunity.
We don’t need someone who just makes things pretty. We need a designer who thrives on untangling complexity, someone who can look at a dense, multi-step compliance workflow and see the intuitive experience hiding inside it. You will be the design leader who partners with Product Managers, Engineering and Tax Subject Matter Experts to transform regulatory logic into intelligent product experiences that anticipate what users need, guide them through complexity, and make compliance feel effortless.
Role and Responsibilities
- Drive User Experience for Enterprise Tax Compliance: Design across complex B2B workflows — from data ingestion and eligibility validation to filing and reporting. Your north star is measurable business impact: driving self-service adoption, shortening time-to-value, and increasing API integration success by designing experiences that eliminate friction and reduce dependency on manual support.
- Ground Design Decisions in Structured Discovery and Evaluative Research: Partner with Product Managers to map business outcomes to user opportunities and systematically identify the highest-impact problems to solve — using frameworks like Opportunity Solution Trees to stay focused on outcomes, not just outputs. Draw on a diverse range of inputs: user interviews, session recordings and analytics. Leverage evaluative research to validate that what you design actually moves the needle.
- Mentor and Accelerate: Provide hands-on mentorship to design, PM and cross-functional colleagues, raising the bar for how the team approaches design thinking, user advocacy, and structured problem-solving. Foster a test-and-learn culture where designs get in front of users early, feedback is captured systematically, and iteration is purposeful rather than perfectionist.
- Partner Deeply with Product and Engineering: Operate as a true peer to Product Managers and Engineering leads, not waiting for requirements but actively shaping what gets built. Bring a strong point of view on user experience to strategy discussions, roadmap planning, and technical trade-off conversations.
Professional Qualifications
Required
- Experience: 8-10+ years of product design experience, with a significant portion in B2B SaaS or enterprise platforms involving complex, data-heavy workflows.
- B2B Workflow Design Mastery: Proven experience designing multi-step workflows, dense information architectures, and data-rich interfaces for professional users. You make complexity navigable without oversimplifying it. You measure success not by the elegance of the design, but by whether it drives adoption, reduces time-to-value, and eliminates unnecessary support burden.
- AI Prototyping Proficiency: Demonstrated hands-on experience using AI-powered tools (e.g., Figma Make, Claude Code or similar) to accelerate design iteration and produce functional prototypes. You have a strong inclination toward adopting new technologies and can articulate how AI has changed your design process.
- Discovery & Research Skills: Strong aptitude for both problem and solution discovery, including comfort conducting user interviews, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data, and running evaluative tests to validate designs.
- Mentorship Track Record: Demonstrated experience mentoring other designers or cross-functional team members, with a natural aptitude for coaching and raising the design bar.
Nice to Have
- Front-End Technical Fluency: Enough comfort with modern front-end technologies (React, component libraries, etc.) to effectively direct AI coding agents like Claude Code or v0 when building functional prototypes. You don’t need to be an engineer, but the ability to work in a codebase with AI assistance — rather than only in design tools — dramatically increases prototyping speed and fidelity.
- Product Management Fluency: Previous experience in or strong competency with product management. You can think in terms of business outcomes, prioritization, and trade-offs, not just design artifacts.
- Regulated Industries Experience: Background in regtech, fintech, tax, compliance or other highly regulated domains where precision and auditability matter.
- B2C Experience: Experience designing consumer-facing products in addition to enterprise, giving you range in how you think about user motivation and engagement.
Personal Characteristics
- The “Builder” Designer: You embody the mindset of a growth-stage startup. You can define the long-term design vision and system architecture, but you are equally eager to roll up your sleeves, open the prototyping tool and ship work yourself. You are a maker more than a meeting-goer.
- Collaborative Influencer: You lead through influence, not authority. You bring designers, PMs, engineers, and SMEs together and facilitate the conversations needed to get to the best outcome. You have strong opinions, loosely held. You know how to advocate for the user without being dogmatic when business reality requires tradeoffs.
- Curious & Adaptable: You are comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change. You proactively seek out new information — about users, regulations, tools, and techniques — to stay ahead of what the product needs.
- Bar-Raiser: You hold yourself and the team to a high standard of craft and quality. You have a strong sense of urgency and accountability, and you aren’t satisfied until the shipped experience meets the bar, not just the initial mock.
