Legal Director

Your Purpose

As our Senior Legal Product, you will play a critical role in reinforcing Bitso’s legal support for the continuous launch of innovative financial products. You will be the strategic legal architect for our product roadmap, ensuring that every new initiative—from investment advisors to crypto-assets—is built on a foundation of regulatory excellence and transactional rigor. Your mission is to bridge the gap between complex financial regulation and agile product execution, acting as a trusted partner to the Product, Finance, and Operations teams. In this role, you will lead a specialized legal team, streamlining transactional workflows, delegating with precision, and ensuring that Bitso navigates the evolving multi-jurisdictional landscape with confidence and speed.

Who You Are

• Experienced Professional: At least 7 years of legal experience, ideally with a background in both law firms and in-house roles within the financial industry.
• Crypto Focus (Strongly Preferred): Previous exposure to and experience in crypto-assets is highly preferred and considered a significant advantage for this role.
• Transactional Expert: Proven track record in transactional law, specializing in the drafting of complex contracts and the legal instrumentation of financial operations.
• Regulatory Savvy: Solid understanding of financial regulations; experience or strong exposure to the crypto industry is a significant advantage.
• Proven Leader: At least 3–4 years of experience leading and managing teams, with a focus on balanced workload distribution and effective delegation.
• Bilingual: Full professional fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory.
• Adaptable & Multidisciplinary: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with a proactive, “hands-on” attitude.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law (JD equivalent); a Master’s degree or postgraduate specialization is highly preferred.
• Location: Based in Mexico City, with a willingness to work from the office (Paseo de la Reforma) at least twice a week.

What You Will Do

• Lead Product Legal Strategy: Serve as the primary legal advisor for the launch and maintenance of Bitso’s financial and crypto products.
• Drive Transactional Excellence: Draft, review, and negotiate the legal instrumentation and contracts required for complex financial operations, moving beyond standard corporate governance into core product architecture.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the Product team to assess risks and provide actionable legal solutions for new features and services.
• Team Leadership & Management: Coordinate and mentor a small legal team, ensuring high-quality output through effective delegation and workload balancing.
• Regulatory Monitoring: Stay ahead of financial and crypto regulations across relevant jurisdictions to ensure Bitso remains compliant while scaling.
• Operational Efficiency: Implement streamlined legal processes to handle a high volume of diverse matters, maintaining the agility required by a fast-scaling fintech.
