About this role in the team:

We are seeking a proactive and self-motivated Head of Trading in Malta to ensure the optimal performance of our automated systems. This person will actively monitor flows across BVNK’s product suite, mitigating risks and ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards. There will be an expectation to collaborate with technical teams to enhance trading systems and strategies, driving continuous improvement in desk performance. As we scale, you will be responsible for fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring seamless execution and risk management. Given the dynamic nature of our business and continued growth, the scope of this role may evolve over time, requiring agility and a proactive approach to new challenges and opportunities.

As the company’s Head of Trading in Malta, you will report directly to the Board of Directors and to the Managing Director (for day-to-day priority / personnel management), ensuring independent escalation of issues and transparency in decision making. All significant risks, including potential conflicts, will be reported to the Board for review and challenge. The Board will retain ultimate responsibility for oversight and can intervene if any conflicts arise, or where capacity / resourcing becomes an issue.

As Head of Trading, your responsibilities will include:

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

• Controls Monitoring
• Monitor and manage trading activity.
• Ensure trading activities comply with internal risk frameworks, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards.
• Review transactions for accuracy and adherence to applicable rules and controls.
• Identify, escalate, and mitigate trading and operational risks in real time.
• Develop and maintain contingency plans for market stress events and trading disruptions.

• Trading & Order Execution
• Oversee the timely and accurate execution of exchange and trading requests in line with company policies and procedures.
• Execute manual quoting and hedging as required to support trading operations..
• Manage automated trading flows, ensuring efficient execution and system stability.
• Monitor trading performance across all channels, identifying and resolving execution issues and anomalies.
• Partner with technology teams to enhance trading strategies, systems, and infrastructure.
• Oversee the ongoing development and maintenance of trading platforms and related infrastructure.

• Develop, implement, and periodically review operational policies and procedures related to trading activities.
• Coordinate with banking partners to manage liquidity, funding, and settlement processes.
• Collaborate with Treasury to ensure alignment on liquidity and funding requirements.
• Support the resolution of settlement, reconciliation, and operational issues across the trade lifecycle.
• Prepare and deliver trading, risk, and performance reports for Senior Management and the Board.
• Contribute to financial planning through forecasting and budgetary insights related to trading activity.
• Work cross-functionally to implement enhancements to desk operations, controls, and trading strategies.

What we need from you:

7+ years experience: Previous experience in risk management, automated trading systems.. A self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment is essential.Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of trading, trading platforms, algorithmic trading, and risk monitoring tools.Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and process large datasets (SQL, Python, R) and provide actionable insights for trading and risk management.Communication: Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for liaising with clients and internal teams.
