About this role in the team:
As BVNK’s Head of Operations, you will lead the Payment Operations and Reconciliations departments, reporting to the VP of Operations. You will play a pivotal role in merging traditional FIAT banking with digital assets, overseeing a global 24/7 engine that handles international schemes (SEPA/SWIFT) and first-line financial crime defense. This is a strategic, high-impact position where you will build operational resilience and represent the department at the Board level to ensure a seamless, institutional-grade client experience.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Policy & Procedure: Develop, implement, and review robust operational policies for payment processing and reconciliations to ensure scalability.
- Reporting: Prepare and present detailed operational performance reports for Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
- Financial Planning: Contribute to the company’s financial health by providing accurate operational forecasts and budgetary insights.
- Contingency Planning: Oversee the development of robust business continuity and operational contingency plans to mitigate system failures or disruptions impacting day-to-day operations.
Operational Excellence
- Payment Execution: Oversee the execution of global payment operations, ensuring efficient processing across UK & International FIAT schemes (Faster Payments, CHAPS, SEPA, SWIFT, FEDWIRE, ACH) and Digital Assets.
- Reconciliations: Supervise complex reconciliation processes across multiple accounts and systems to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Risk & Compliance: Manage operational risks and oversee the 1st line financial crime compliance team, ensuring strict adherence to internal policies and global regulations.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor and exceed agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) across all operational functions.
Process & Infrastructure
- Optimisation: Identify opportunities for process automation and industry-leading best practices to maximise efficiency and safeguarding.
- Systems Management: Oversee the maintenance and evolution of operational infrastructure, collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to build world-class internal tooling.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct end-to-end process reviews and collaborate with internal/external auditors to maintain a gold-standard control environment.
People & Culture
- Team Leadership: Lead and inspire the Malta Payment Ops and Reconciliation teams.
- Development: Recruit, coach, and mentor team members to foster a culture of excellence and customer-centricity.
What we need from you:
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in a leadership role within a regulated payment business (e.g. EMI) is essential.
- Proven Track Record: Experience in a high-growth tech company or startup, with a history of rapidly assuming responsibility and delivering results.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of global FIAT payment rails and an interest/experience in the Digital Asset ecosystem.
- Analytical Rigor: Strong financial acumen and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Change Management: Proven ability to lead high-level process changes and organisational transitions.
- Communication: Exceptional stakeholder management skills; able to influence at the senior executive level and collaborate cross-functionally.
- Adaptability: The ability to multitask across short-term tactical fixes and long-term strategic initiatives.
