It’s rare that a new asset class is born. Nevertheless, we’re witnessing exactly that with the rise of crypto. Over just the last few years, since Bitwise was founded, crypto has evolved from an embryonic $50B market to a growing $3T+ juggernaut. At Bitwise, we believe that crypto has reached a turning point, and is headed north of $10T over the next few years.

This is an exciting moment for Bitwise as a firm. For eight years, we have established a track record of excellence managing a broad suite of index and active solutions across ETFs, separately managed accounts, private funds, institutional staking, and hedge fund strategies. This year, we crossed $15B in client assets and are growing quickly. Thousands of financial advisors, family offices, and institutional investors partner with Bitwise to understand and access the opportunities in crypto. We are known for providing unparalleled client support through expert research and commentary, a nationwide client team of crypto specialists, and deep access to the crypto ecosystem.

Currently, Bitwise is a close-knit team of 100+ global professionals. Think of us as a mix of an asset manager and a tech start-up. We’re backed by some of the most accomplished investors in venture capital and veterans of the financial services world. We love working together, we love what we do, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Global Controller to design, institutionalize, and lead a world-class global accounting function across multiple jurisdictions. This individual will architect a scalable accounting infrastructure, establish consistent policies and reporting standards across global entities, and elevate documentation, close processes, and control frameworks to the highest level of rigor. The goal is to build an institutional-grade accounting environment that is disciplined, scalable, and capable of withstanding sophisticated audit scrutiny as the organization continues to grow.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish disciplined, scalable close processes with strong review controls and clear accountability across regions.
  • Oversee the global close process, including multi-entity consolidation, foreign currency translation, and intercompany eliminations.
  • Lead consolidated financial reporting under US GAAPServe as the technical accounting authority, exercising independent judgment on complex and non-routine transactions.
  • Proactively identify accounting risk areas and implement structural improvements.
  • Harmonize accounting practices across jurisdictions and influence regional teams not in direct reporting lines.
  • Lead integration of newly acquired entities, ensuring alignment of systems, policies, and reporting frameworks.
  • Enhance and optimize the existing financial systems architecture across ERP platforms, subledgers, and reporting tools to support increasing scale and complexity.
  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of industry-standard close process management and financial reporting platforms (e.g., BlackLine, Workiva, or similar) to elevate workflow governance, documentation discipline, and reporting standardization.
  • Strengthen governance around data integrity, system access, and review procedures.
  • Lead PCAOB audit engagements and coordinate effectively with external auditors.
  • Build and develop a high-performing global accounting organization capable of supporting continued growth.
  • Plan strategically at a big-picture level while operating effectively in the details, elevating teams from operational execution to institutional-grade performance.

  • CPA required.
  • At least 4 years of experience as a controller or assistant controller in multi-entity, global organization or public organization
  • Deep expertise in US GAAP, consolidation, FX, and technical accounting. IFRS a plus
  • M&A integration experience.
  • Executive presence and strong communication skills, with the ability to influence leaders outside of direct reporting lines.
