The Sei Development Foundation is seeking an experienced General Counsel to lead all legal, compliance, and governance matters for the Foundation. This role requires exceptional judgment, cross-border fluency, and an understanding of how decentralized ecosystems interact with evolving global regulatory frameworks.
The Foundation supports Sei’s mission to enable next-generation financial markets through grants, partnerships, and stewardship of the Sei ecosystem. The ideal candidate combines global regulatory literacy with a pragmatic, builder-friendly mindset.
Location: Remote (NYC preferred)
Reports to: Board of Directors, Sei Development Foundation
Serve as the Foundation’s general counsel and trusted advisor to the Board
Lead governance and compliance programs aligned with the Foundation’s mission and jurisdictional obligations
Oversee grant programs, ensuring accountability and adherence to global compliance standards
Manage relationships with external counsel across multiple jurisdictions (Cayman, BVI, EU, APAC, U.S.)
Advise on token management, exchange coordination, and international treasury operations
Develop internal policies on communications, sanctions, KYC, and AML
Represent the Foundation in cross-ecosystem collaborations and policy discussions
J.D. or equivalent international qualification; active license in a major jurisdiction
10+ years of experience in fintech, digital assets, or cross-border regulatory practice
Demonstrated experience with nonprofit or foundation governance
Strong grasp of evolving digital asset regulatory frameworks globally
Collaborative, discreet, and able to navigate complex multi-stakeholder environments
