About the General Counsel Role

We are looking for a General Counsel to report into our Chief Executive Officer. In this role you will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s legal, regulatory, and public policy functions. Primary compliance responsibility will be borne by the Chief Compliance Officer, though you will be expected to be aware of, and to contribute to, meeting the Company’s compliance obligations. You will serve as a solutions-oriented advisor, partnering with the CEO, senior leadership, and the board of directors on all aspects of the business, current and future risks and assist in setting, influencing, and implementing the overall strategic direction of the company.

Active membership and good standing in at least one U.S. State Bar is mandatory. We are open to a candidate anywhere in Latin America.

What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee all legal, regulatory, and public policy matters, both strategic and tactical, impacting Higlobe’s current and future business and strategy
  • Serve as a member of the executive leadership team to set overall business strategy
  • Proactively advise the CEO, CFO, senior executives, and board of directors
  • Negotiate all Company legal agreements with business partners and prospective business partners
  • Develop, build and manage the overall legal, regulatory and public policy functions, including coordinating legal advice from outside counsel in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Execute core legal, and public policy work around partner business relationships, platform content and liability, privacy, corporate governance, litigation and regulatory matters, commercial and strategic business transactions and labor and employment issues.
  • Proactively counsel across the company to help balance risk against business objectives on complex, high stakes matters, providing business-oriented solutions and effective risk mitigation
  • Maintain proper corporate interactions with relevant state, federal and international regulators and other government constituents, and the community at large
  • Manage the operations, budget, and systems for the delivery of legal, regulatory and public policy services, driving efficiency and scale consistent with organizational demands

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house (or a combination thereof), preferably with some of which focusing on payments services and/or technology transactions, ideally with some experience with early stage companies.
  • Prior experience or a strong understanding of the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry is highly desirable.
  • Ability to understand complex contractual and regulatory issues in multiple jurisdictions, assess risk, and provide concise business-focused legal advice.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage several simultaneous projects with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to lead projects with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, business judgment, strategic thinking, and superior work ethic.
  • Highest integrity and ethical standards.
