Frontend Tech Lead | React & React Native

Note (README):

This position is based in the Netherlands, with two office days per week in Amsterdam (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Remote candidates will only be considered if they are truly outstanding and can clearly demonstrate exceptional experience in leading frontend teams, mastering our core technologies (React, React Native with Expo, modern testing frameworks, and ideally Svelte 5), and consistently delivering high-quality products.

We are a growing ticketing platform startup based in Amsterdam. Our mission is to reshape the live events industry with technology that improves both the organizer and customer experience.

On the frontend, we focus on modern design and usability. Our mobile apps are built with React Native, while our web applications combine React/Next.js and Svelte 5 with shadcn/ui and TailwindCSS. This setup allows us to build elegant and well-designed interfaces that are fast, scalable, and user-friendly.

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced Frontend Tech Lead to guide our frontend team and raise the quality of our web and mobile applications.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will be directly responsible for designing solutions, developing features, mentoring other engineers, and solving complex problems. You will play a key role in setting direction and driving quality.

Quality is the core of this role. You will be responsible for establishing and enforcing a complete testing strategy, making sure our applications reach the highest standards. This is not optional — it is a key responsibility. If you do not have strong experience in automated testing, or if you believe testing is not a priority, this position will not be the right fit.

What you’ll do:

• Lead frontend development with a focus on React and React Native.
• Set up and enforce a complete testing strategy from scratch, ensuring every part of our applications is properly covered.
• Build and maintain testing frameworks:
• Playwright for web applications
• Appium 2 + WebdriverIO or Detox for React Native mobile apps
• Drive the implementation of unit tests, component tests, and e2e tests.
• Define and roll out best practices to improve application quality, performance, and reliability.
• Troubleshoot complex frontend issues and guide the team in solving bugs quickly and effectively.
• Identify and address technical debt, proposing improvements that keep our applications scalable and maintainable.
• Collaborate with backend engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver high-quality features.
• Support and mentor other engineers, fostering a culture of quality-first development.
• Contribute to and improve CI/CD pipelines (with GitHub Actions.

What we’re looking for:

• Strong experience with React and React Native.
• Proven track record building testing frameworks from zero for frontend and mobile apps. This is really important for us.
• Deep knowledge of:
• Playwright (for web applications)
• Appium 2 + WebdriverIO or Detox (for React Native mobile apps)
• Solid background in unit and component testing.
• Experience defining and applying a testing policy and strategy across teams.
• Good understanding of frontend performance optimizations.
• Problem-solving mindset, able to tackle bugs and propose improvements.
• Experience managing or mentoring engineers, with leadership skills.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
• Experience with Svelte 5 is a strong plus, as it will also be part of your responsibility.
• Based in the Netherlands and available to work in Amsterdam 2x per week. Exceptionally strong remote leaders may also be considered.
