Job Description
Patreon is a media and community platform where creators give their biggest fans access to exclusive work and experiences. Over 300k creators are cultivating fandoms and building their businesses each month. Creators can offer free memberships to fans looking to explore more of their work, paid memberships to give access to exclusive media and community, or sell directly to fans with Shops.
Ultimately our goal is simple: fund the creative class. And we’re leaders in that space, with:
8B+ earned since Patreon’s inception
30M free new memberships in the first year of launching that option, and
10M fans paying each month for exclusive access to creators’ work and community.
We’re continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator products with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for a Engineering Manager to support our mission
This role is based in San Francisco and open to those who are able to be in-office 2 days per week on a hybrid work model.
About the Role
Team Leadership: You’ll lead a team of backend and platform engineers focused on building scalable infrastructure, improving developer experience, and driving operational excellence across Patreon’s engineering org.
Technical Strategy & Execution: You’ll define and deliver on a platform roadmap that balances immediate reliability needs with long-term architectural investments.
Collaboration at Scale: You’ll work closely with product teams, infrastructure, and cross-functional partners to ensure our backend systems are performant, observable, and developer-friendly.
Culture & Growth: You’ll be responsible for mentoring engineers, fostering a healthy team culture, and helping grow the next generation of technical leaders at Patreon.
Mission-Driven Impact: Your work will directly support the creators who rely on Patreon by ensuring our platform is stable, fast, and built to scale with their ambitions.
Participate in company-wide hiring activities such as recruiting, interviewing, and closing top candidates.
About You
You’re a systems thinker who enjoys solving foundational engineering problems that create leverage for other teams — from infrastructure reliability to developer workflows.
You lead with empathy and clarity, balancing technical depth with people-first leadership. You care about growing engineers and building strong, inclusive teams.
You’re comfortable in complexity, whether it’s aligning across functions, wrangling legacy systems, or driving clarity in ambiguous situations.
You care deeply about quality and velocity, and you’re motivated by building tools and platforms that make engineering teams faster, safer, and happier.
You believe in Patreon’s mission, and you’re excited to build technology that supports creative independence and helps creators thrive.
