What you’ll be responsible for:
Reporting to the VP, Partnerships & Business Development, EMEA, the Director of Business Development – Europe will lead strategic payments partnerships across the region.
This is a senior role responsible for originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing high-impact commercial agreements that expand adoption of USDC and EURC in real-world payment flows.
You will own the full partnership lifecycle—from pipeline development to contract execution and post-deal expansion—while collaborating cross-functionally to ensure successful activation and scaled growth.
This role requires executive presence, strong payments domain expertise, and the ability to navigate complex operational environments.
What You’ll Be Responsible For:
Developing and executing Circle’s European payments partnership strategy, focused on driving real-world payment use cases through PSPs, remittance providers, and fintech platforms.
Driving revenue growth and measurable OKRs tied to transaction volume and product adoption.
Owning the full deal lifecycle: sourcing, qualification, business case development, structuring, negotiation, and closure.
Expanding USDC and EURC adoption in cross-border payments, treasury flows, merchant settlement, and embedded finance use cases.
Structuring bespoke, first-of-their-kind partnerships that integrate Circle’s APIs and infrastructure into regulated financial institutions and payment ecosystems.
Partnering closely with Product, Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Engineering to execute complex deals in a regulated and evolving digital asset landscape.
Leading executive-level conversations with C-suite stakeholders and influencing strategic roadmaps at major financial institutions.
Building long-term ecosystem value by identifying scalable distribution channels and strategic network effects across Europe.
What You’ll Bring:
Core requirements
12+ years of experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or commercial leadership roles.
7+ years of experience in payments, fintech, banking, or financial infrastructure.
Deep knowledge of European payments ecosystems, including cross-border flows, SEPA, open banking, embedded finance, correspondent banking, and settlement infrastructure.
Proven track record of structuring and closing complex, high-value deals with regulated financial institutions and enterprise partners.
Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated ownership of revenue targets and pipeline management.
Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments and build new categories from early-stage adoption to scaled deployment.
Strong executive communication and negotiation skills.
Fluency in English required; additional European languages are a plus.
Willingness to travel across Europe (30–50% seasonally).
Preferred requirements:
Experience navigating regulatory frameworks and working closely with compliance and risk stakeholders.
Experience in digital assets, blockchain infrastructure, or stablecoins is strongly preferred.
