Our mission is to build an open protocol for public conversation. We give users more choice, developers more freedom, and creators more control. The Bluesky app is the first major social application built on the AT Protocol, and we’re looking for an experienced developer relations lead to help build and evangelize “The Atmosphere” — the growing developer ecosystem around the AT Protocol. You’ll be the crucial bridge between our engineering team and the growing community of developers building on the protocol.
You’ll thrive in this role if you have a solid engineering background, a demonstrated interest in open protocols and open source software, strong communication skills, and have grown a developer ecosystem from its early stages. You’ll work closely with our engineering, product, and community teams to nurture a thriving developer ecosystem that powers the next generation of social applications.
Responsibilities:
- Establish a clear growth strategy for “The Atmosphere”, identifying and leveraging opportunities in the ecosystem
- Gather, synthesize, and communicate developer feedback to improve the protocol and developer experience
- Work hands-on with the engineering team to ensure developer tools, SDKs, APIs, and protocol primitives meet real-world developer needs
- Field issues and PRs in Bluesky’s open-source software work
- Develop comprehensive documentation that makes the AT Protocol accessible to developers of all experience levels
- Create compelling technical content including tutorials, guides, blog posts, sample code, and demos that showcase protocol innovations and developer success stories
- Highlight and support third-party projects, from custom feeds and starter packs to alternative clients and standalone applications
- Serve as a technical point of contact for external integrations
- Represent Bluesky at events, as well as help organize events and hackathons in collaboration with the community
- Help shape the AT Protocol roadmap based on ecosystem needs and opportunities
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in developer relations, developer advocacy, or similar technical developer community role
- Experience creating and executing go-to-market strategies for developer platforms
- Strong software development background with demonstrable experience building and shipping products
- Experience developing or improving SDK quality and developer tooling
- Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to various audiences
- Experience building or working with distributed/federated systems, APIs, or protocols
- Open-source contribution history and understanding of decentralized web principles
- Understanding of cryptographic principles related to identity and authentication
- Experience with TypeScript and Go ecosystems
- Experience navigating the balance between technical innovation and user experience
- Self-motivated with ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
We’re a fully remote team, but an overlap of working hours with PST is required, and for this role, proximity and willingness to travel to Seattle is a plus. We offer health, dental, and vision insurance.
This is an opportunity to shape the future of social networking at a critical growth stage. If you’re excited about helping developers build innovative experiences that weren’t possible in closed platforms, we encourage you to apply.
