Your Mission
As an Anti-Financial Crime Compliance Specialist at Bitpanda, you will play a critical role in strengthening the integrity of our financial ecosystem. Your core responsibility will be to conduct business customers onboarding, reviews and monitoring activities in line with Austrian and German regulatory requirements, contributing to a robust and sustainable AFC Compliance framework. You will analyse complex corporate structures, assess risks, and ensure adherence to internal policies and applicable laws while supporting the growth of Bitpanda’s business through informed risk-based decision-making.
What you’ll do
- Conduct comprehensive due diligence and ongoing monitoring of business customers, including legal entity analysis, ownership structure assessments, and verification of documentation in line with Austrian and German AML requirements, including identifying their source of funds.
- Identify and assess high-risk scenarios, propose improvements to risk classification methodology, and determine appropriate mitigation measures based on business activity, geographical exposure, and other relevant factors.
- Proactively engage with internal stakeholders, providing advisory support and proposing tailored compliance solutions aligned with business objectives. Escalate high-risk cases, red flags or unusual activity to the Anti-Money Laundering Officer (AMLO) for further review and decision-making.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of 1st Line of Defense onboarding activities to ensure compliance with internal procedures, regulatory standards, and documentation requirements.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of onboarding processes, checklists, and controls and remain informed of evolving AML/CFT and AFC regulatory frameworks and industry practices relevant to the onboarding and monitoring of business customers.
Who you are
- Educational Background: You hold a degree in Law, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Your academic background enables you to effectively understand and navigate complex regulatory environments.
- Relevant Experience: You have prior experience in compliance roles within banks, financial institutions, or fintech companies. This experience provides you with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in the financial sector, supporting Bitpanda’s mission to offer secure and innovative financial products to its users.
- Language Proficiency: You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with strong presentation abilities. Your capability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely aligns with Bitpanda’s commitment to making finance accessible to all. Proficiency in German, French, Italian or Spanish is an advantage.
- Regulatory Expertise: You are adept at navigating diverse regulatory frameworks and can effectively interpret legal texts to assess compliance requirements and risks relevant to Bitpanda’s business operations.
- Analytical and Research Skills: You have strong analytical and research capabilities with meticulous attention to detail. Your ability to interpret laws, regulations, and guidance from national competent authorities plays a vital role in Bitpanda’s decision-making processes.
