In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That’s for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.
We’re solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don’t always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across 9 countries and are growing fast.

How you’ll help us achieve it
We are seeking an Accounting Assistant to join us on a four-month fixed-term replacement contract. The role will involve performing daily accounting tasks and supporting the Financial Controller in the monthly preparation of Wave Transfer Mali’s local statutory financial statements, as well as reporting to the Wave Mobile Money Group.
In this role, you’ll;
- Reconcile invoices and identify discrepancies.
- Create and update expense reports.
- Process reimbursement forms.
- Prepare bank deposits and month-end reconciliations.
- Maintain digital and physical financial records.
- Issue invoices to customers and external partners as needed.
- Review and file payroll documents.
- Participate in annual audits and month-end reconciliations of Wave’s balance sheet accounts including: financial analysis and periodic budget processes and updates.

- Work authorization in Mali is required.
- This is a 4-month fixed-term position.

Requirements
- Proficiency in French and a good level of English (nice to have).
- At least one year of experience in a similar position (ideally in an international company).
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a comparable field.
